Ages: 16 and up  |  Time: 6pm-8:30pm

The original brooms were not flat nor made with wire. You will craft a Hearth Besom the old way with twine, a stick and Broom Corn, some of which was grown at Oak Knoll Farm & Basket materials. All materials are included in the class fee as well as a finished broom to take home.  Minimum age of 16 with all minors requiring adult supervision.  Hand strength is required of this craft. Your instructor will be Robin Goatey of The Dancing Goats Farm.  He is an instructor at the John C. Campbell Folk School and past president of The Artisans Guild of Southern Illinois.  He is also an accomplished and award- winning craftsman is several arts including but not limited to woodcarving, tapestry weaving, ceramics and metallurgy.  He is a member of The American Tapestry Alliance and The Hand Weavers Guild of America.
