Hello people of O’Fallon. Your friends at O’Fallon Parks & Recreation have been asked to contribute content to share with you all. We thought it would be good to start with a “did you know” about the department, and an update for upcoming activities.
Did You Know
Did you know there are 17 full-time employees in the Parks & Recreation Department? Our recreation staff oversee nearly 400 unique annual programs, leagues, and activities throughout the year in addition to the daily operations of the O’Fallon Memorial Pool & O’Fallon Family Sports Park. The park staff maintain over 400 acres of parks and trails.
Did you know that as an O’Fallon resident, you get priority to rent pavilions each year? Residents can start reserving our pavilions on February 1 st while non-residents can’t reserve pavilions until March 1 st . The Katy Cavins Community Center, the Grange Cabin, and Rock Springs Rotary Nature Center can be reserved 1-year in advance, while the Station can be reserved 6-months in advance.
Did you know we are almost always hiring? We need great seasonal staff in order to offer our programs and maintain the parks and trails. We will be having our job fair on Thursday, February 2 nd from 3pm – 5:15pm in the Katy Cavins Community Center for people to learn more about what each seasonal position entails. Sport officials can be as young as 14; lifeguards and concession workers can be as young as 15; camp counselors and park maintenance workers should be at least 16.
Believe it or not, it’s time to start looking forward to our spring programs, sports, and camps. Our O&S (O’Fallon & Shiloh) soccer, baseball, and softball registration is open. If you register before February 1 st, you will receive a $10 discount/registration. Leagues will fill up fast, so be sure to register early.
Do those sports not interest your child? Why not try lacrosse! We work with Styx Lacrosse to provide opportunities for kids to play this fast-growing sport and equipment is provided to all players. Practices are in O’Fallon, and games are on weekends in the St. Louis Metro area.
If you are looking for programs other than sports, look no further. Our Sweetheart Dance (formerly the Daddy/Daughter Dance) is February 10th. We have yoga classes, puppy training, painting classes, a children’s musical “Annie”, and so much more in the coming months.
Registration opens January 9th for the 2023 Summer Camp season, and we are back with more fun activities to keep your kids busy all summer. We offer Camp Choo Choo for 3–5 year old kids who have not yet completed kindergarten; we offer Camp Cavins for kids who have completed kindergarten, up to 12 years old. Lastly, and the most popular of all summer camps, our Mini Camps. Mini Camp age requirements vary based on the camp.
To register for programs or reserve facilities, visit our website at ofallonparksandrec.com or visit us at the Katy Cavins Community Center, Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 5:00pm. We hope everyone has a happy holiday!
