Must pass prerequisites to participate in course. This is a blended learning course. Advanced coursework will need to be completed prior to in-person course dates.

Teaches the duties and responsibilities of lifeguards to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies and procedures to carry them out in a professional manner. Certifies participant in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 15 by the last day of the course.
  • Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence of 150 yards swim continuously using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of the two. Tread water for 2 minutes without hands, swim an additional 50 yards using front crawl or breaststroke.
  • Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a minimum depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to the surface, and kick on the back to the starting point while holding the object with both hands and exit the water without the use of a ramp, stairs or steps within one minute and forty seconds. Swim goggles are not allowed.
    1.  Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of at least 7 to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    2.  Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath.
    3. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
    4. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
