Community Park Enhancement Project!

Welcome to the Community Park Enhancement Blog. Follow along with us as we continually update this post on all the activities going on with the redevelopment of Community Park.

There are many new and exciting features coming to Community Park. The oldest park in O’Fallon will have a well-deserved transformation.

Recently, we completed a new all abilities playground just north of the old playground. “The Playground of Champions” is fully accessible to children with all abilities from wheelchairs to heels and toes. Nothing is off limits on this destination playground.

Second on the list is the addition of a 0.85-mile, multi-use trail around the perimeter of Community Park.

Thanks to grant funds provided by the Metro East Parks and Recreation District, we are able to construct the trail.

The trail is scheduled to be completed by June 1st.

The third addition is the construction of our recreation center piece. The new construction will include a new pool, a new Parks & Recreation building with rental space, and the Performing Arts Stage.

This project is just getting under way and will be completed by Memorial Day weekend of 2025.

Memorial Pool will be open all season; however, this will be the last season, so make sure you stop by this year for a final swim in pool that has served this community for a little over 65 years.

The new pool will include a leisure pool with zero-depth entry, splash pad features, a ninja warrior cross rope, two run out slides, and an area for pool volleyball and/or hanging out with friends and family! The competition pool will have six lanes for lap swimming, swim lessons, and swim club activities. It will also have a diving board.

Finally, there is the addition of the NEW Katy Cavins Community Center!

The current building is almost 100 years old and the cost to bring the facility up to date is well over 2 million dollars. City Council decided to invest in a new facility, and it will be located directly across the street from the current building. Construction is scheduled to begin June of 2024 with an estimated completion in May of 2025.

The new Katy Cavins Center will include multi-purpose courts along with a kitchen and sitting area that will be available for renters throughout the year. This will also be the new home for all of our Summer Camp kiddos!

Update: June 19th

The Trail is almost complete. The paving is done as well as the grass seeding. All that is left to do is the striping down the center of the trail and we still need to put up some trail signage.

Tree Update: Parks Horticulture staff were busy in early June replacing some of the trees that have been cut down over the last year. We planted over 30 trees throughout the park and we have plans for many more once the construction is complete.

Pool Update: Work is going along nicely on the New Parks and Rec. administration building. The building footings are installed, electrical work is continuing as well as plumbing.
